Before there was City Recorders, there was Easy Street Recording studio in Studio City on Sepulveda Boulevard in the San Fernando Valley.
This room was originally a garage for a house built on a hill behind it. It was built into a private studio, which our artist management company took over for rehearsal space for new acts and, once we’d acquired a used 16-track recorder, to record demos for recording companies. Over time, we began to rent it out for others for the same purposes. Recording studios were all up and down the block here and we worked out barter deals to borrow microphones and other equipment. We moved all of this equipment into Studio B in Hollywood, when we moved into the Sunset Gower building.
